If it's been recently created, it will take awhile for web crawlers to locate and index it. You can speed the process by paying for search engine submission, or choosing the slightly slower (but free) submission to DMOZ.
You can also check into AdWords, to have your site show as a sponsored link when certain keywords are used in Google searches.
Finally, it just helps to maintain a really good, updated site. Something that helps your "standings" in web searches is links to you from lots of other sites, and evidence that you haven't let your site go stale.
